Podcast Resources

Microphones

Whilst recording our podcast we will more than likely be using a RODE NT1A as our mic. They are a large diaphragm condenser microphone which makes this suitable for our project as they are used to record studio vocals rather than live vocals like a hand held microphone, using a diaphragm condenser microphone will make the vocals sound clear and over all will provide us with a higher quality performance. For our last project we used a dynamic microphone to record, we did this rather than a condenser because dynamic mics are better for grasping loud, strong sounds such as loud vocals. Whereas a condenser microphone is used for more light sounds that could be considered delicate as well as higher frequencies (studio vocals). Using a condenser microphone means we will have to use a cradle mount in order to stop any unwanted vibrations interfering with the recording. A pop shield will also help to reduce these as well as plosives whilst speaking. These are important to achieve a clear recording because we want to create a seemingly professional, seamless podcast for our end project. As well as using a pop shield we always have to remember not to hold the mic when recording as it will create disruption in the audio.

Sound Card

Sound cards do not have the same functions as audio interfaces which means that ultimately an audio interface will be the better piece of equipment to use for our podcast. This is because audio interfaces are used to convert audio to be digital, a file that can be played on computer speakers, they also expand the inputs and outputs that they have available.

Logic Pro X

Using Logic will allow us the freedom to both record our audios and edit them in away that will make our podcast hopefully higher quality. Logic will be the program we use for not only the aspect of it being a free platform but also because of the tools it has to offer. Allowing us to do what we like within the application. Logic isn't a difficult site to use, easy to find your way around everything you will need and it makes recording less stressful also, giving us a simple way to create our podcast. We will use Logic rather than recording using online options such as zoom or teams as these are both live platforms that could possibly have the audio end up out of sync because of lag caused by poor internet connection that some of the people in the podcast could have issues with, this will then interrupt with the overall quality of the podcast.
