Induction Practice.

Potential to Be Amazing

The task at hand was to create a piece of promotional media in order to persuade people ages 15-19 looking to join college or to push them in the direction of thinking about further education. Because of this it means that our target audience fits into the social grade categories E and D. The video must be at least 30 seconds, making sure to not include any other students that don't want to be included as well as copyrighted logos and music. We will be adding on voice overs to explain why we (or other students that we include in our video) came to Sunderland college as well as an ending logo and having them all say "Unlock your potential." We were set the objective of researching already existing promotional media, posters, videos, ect...

Looking at already existing posters was the first piece of progress I made. A lot of the posters I found used bright colours, less writing and bigger pictures, making it appeal more to a younger audience. They use less writing to make the poster seem less informative and easier to read, thus making people want to read said poster more than they would if there were just paragraphs of writing covering the area. It seems like bigger photos are used successfully create an excuse to write less, ending in making the poster being a simpler task. (My market research poster was lost due to technical issues with the macs.)

I also took the time to look at already existing videos. Analysing the edits and cuts used, taking notes on the parts I enjoyed and the parts I thought could be made better. Doing this was important as it helped to decide whether I would prefer to work on a poster rather than a video, I eventually settled on a video after re-evaluating my options.

In our group we will be working together in order to capture a selection of small videos around campus. Continuing with our plan we will then form a small promotional college video to persuade people to join. To create the video, we will take into account using different camera angles and techniques as well as different sets. Each set will be on college campus, meeting the criteria of the video being for college. We have begun editing the small amount of footage we have already acquired on premiere pro, as of now we still need to shoot more.

To begin our project, we started by location scouting. Finding different places around campus that were more secluded meaning it would be easier to avoid including other people around campus that didn't want to be in the video, to decide where we wanted to shoot our video. Taking small clips of footage and photos to show progress. We decided on how we wanted the intro to go, choosing camera angles and different ways to film. Following this step, we will review and compile usable clips.

At this time, we have footage due to a miss place of an SD card. This means was we will have to re film the progress we had made in order to finish the project by our due date. Although we came across a problem, we have no worries as to how far this will set us back.

We have made a blogger and slide share account, to make it easier for us to save our work and share it to our lecturers. Slide share will grant us the simplicity of putting videos we create onto our blogs.

After re filming we obtained more than enough footage, making sure we had enough to re edit our project. We reviewed said footage and took away what we needed and didnt need, meaning we could begin editing. Making progress in the editing meant we could then start recording voice overs as well as choosing none copyrighted music to use in the background: we used bensound in order to do this. This was proven to be more difficult than we had previously thought, having to re take multiple times in order to find the pieces we eventually decided were good enough to include in the final product.

As we come to the end of our project, we have found it to be very short and straight to the point. Doing this has a higher success rate of catching our audiences attention as it isnt a video that could become repetitive, something a lot of adverts cant do. Focusing on our audience was something that ended up being very important in our final product, as we technically are the target audience, thinking about things that we would enjoy and dislike in already existing adverts made it easier to decide what we wanted to include in our own promotional video. This meant we could move away from plans that would make our project annoying
