Target Audience and Audience profile.

 Audience.

We were given the task of creating a survey on google forms. Conducting a survey in order to round up enough information to understand who our audience will be. Knowing our audience was extremely important going forward in our project because we had to have an audience to focus on for our advertisement. Without this information we would be left with an advert made for ourselves rather than other people which would defeat the point of the project we were given.

Having age and gender as the first two questions were the most important. It shows who our general audience is and what would be appropriate to include in our advertisement. The results told us that 73.3% of the people that took part in the survey were aged 15-18. Giving us the freedom to assume other things about our audience. 40% of the results identified as male, 45.7% of the results identified as female. This means that gender will not be a main focus in our advertisement as there is no need for it.

The next question on the survey was pushing forward the project of the smile campaign. These questions would help to provide personal information regarding our audience. Considering the project is about smiling and how it can effect our mental health these questions were very important.
We found that 36.7% of people sometimes smile and 40% of people smile often. Showing that our audience are relatively joyful, whether these smiles are real smiles or not we do not know but if smiling is proven to make you feel better, then we can assume our audience are 'happy'.

This question turned out to be more important than i had thought, most of the answers given were about stress being caused by social situations. This also included things like work and college which are also very social places. However, college and work also cause stress through the tasks they make them do, projects and deadlines are things that stress people out no matter the place. This gives us direction as to what our advertisement will be about.

Similarly to the questions about how often people smile and feel stressed, this is was also a highly important question from the start of the survey as this is the main part of our project. Getting enough answers to understand how smiling effects our audiences mental health was extremely important going forward and would have made the project almost impossible to accurately portray. Finding that 48.7% of people dont actually smile when they're feeling stressed. This tells us that our advert needs to work even harder to promote the idea of smiling to our audience.

A lot of the answers given were 'music', this gives us a great indication of what our advertisement should include. Showing that we need to have a good background song that will come across as enticing towards my audience. This will make it less annoying of an advert and will most likely make people want to re-watch the advertisement, continuously getting our point across to those watching.

These two questions were important leading up to our audience profile as we will need to know what is going on in our audiences lives. 73.3% of people are in further education and 53.3% are employed and working. This gives us a good indication of where our audience will be on the social grade.

The last question on the survey, "How would you describe your mental health?" was answered in a variety of different ways, the main answers being "Ok." and "Bad.", the two of them having a result of 30%.

Audience profile.

Audience Profile

The results on my survey  told me enough to fin that my audience are mainly 15-18 year old students taking part in further education, college in particular, and or employed (most likely due to a part-time job.) My audience are both mainly male and female meaning gender is not something ill have to focus on making prominent in my advertisement because it can apply to anyone. I also found that the majority of my audience do not smile when thy are stressed but find themselves being stressed a lot of the time. This means that it is even more important for me to make sure that my advertisement focuses on how smiling can benefit them, i have to make sure to get my point across in a way that will help my audience. When asked what makes them less stressed, my audience made it clear that music was something that really helped them. I took their answer to this question very seriously and have decided that the background music in my advertisement is very important as it is an interest that helps a lot of my audience in a positive way.

Age range: 15-18

Gender: 40% male, 46.7% female

My audience are based in the social grades E and D, the majority of them being college students or employed with what will most likely be part-time jobs. They fit into the psychographics of aspirers and Explorers because of this, being teenagers that are willing to try new things and start growing up into being their own person trying to fit into society.
